NGO Capacity

Our grants are often coupled with capacity building and technical advisory support, ensuring that NGOs
are able to fully utilize additional resources, and build systems that ensure sustainability of efforts.
Capacity building efforts by NDC primarily improve service delivery of NGOs in line with the changing
needs of communities. As the demand for services increases or changes, so must NGOs adapt to
respond to these changes with tailored or expanded services. NDC supports NGOs with technical
expertise, funding, management support, networking and linkages, access to talent, and other capacity
building support. This also involves supporting NGOs to re-examine their strategic direction, improve
performance, and empower leadership and staff with needed intangible skills and knowledge.

NDC’s technical support programmes utilize our expertise and expert roster and are responsive to NGO
needs. Through our focus on effectiveness, NGOs are able to carry out projects and programmes in their
own right, thus contributing to achieving NGO objectives and priorities. NDC also ensures the provision
of suitable resources and the adoption of best practices.

The Palestinian NGO Code of Conduct

NDC launched the NGO Code of Conduct in 2008 together with the four NGO Umbrella Networks and Unions. It is a pioneering self-regulating initiative that aspires to voluntarily commit NGOs to the Code of Conduct principles based on transparency, accountability and good governance. The Code of Conduct introduced ethical principles for NGOs to follow, and introduced sound administrative and managerial systems, procedures and tools and provided technical assistance and coaching to NGOs in the West Bank and Gaza.

It is hoped that adherence to the Code of Conduct will enhance public trust in NGOs, and boost credibility with stakeholders as well as generate space for knowledge sharing. by end of 2019, 620 NGOs have signed up, and over 130 have received coaching and technical assistance to what is the first self-regulating initiative in the Arab World.
