NDC Signs a USD 950,000 Financing Agreement with the Welfare Association

The NGO Development Center (NDC) signed a financing agreement for a total amount of US 950,000 for the rehabilitation of agricultural lands in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip over a period of 18 months. This agreement is supported by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, managed by the Islamic Bank for Development and supervised by the Welfare Association. The signing ceremony was held at the Welfare Association office in Ramallah on Tuesday, May 12, 2009.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Ghassan Kasabreh, NDC Director, and Dr. Tafeeda al-Jarbawi, Director of Operations, Research and Planning at the Welfare Association. The objective of the agreement is to enhance the economic situation of Palestinian farmers by generating employment opportunities and providing water resources for agricultural purposes, in addition to increasing the area of productive agricultural lands in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

This fund is part of the Urgent Support Program for the Palestinian People- Phase Five, funded by Arab financial institutions in order to alleviate the Palestinians’ suffering and to improve their economic situation and living conditions through generating employment in the agricultural sector. Eventually, this project will help to decrease the unemployment rate in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
